Three Reasons to Work With a Contractor Who Specializes in Home Additions

Blog

An expanding family can be a good thing, but if you don't have enough room in your house and you aren't planning on moving, then you might want to think about getting a new room added to your house. If you are going to do that, you'll want to make sure that you are working with a contractor that does room additions on a regular basis. There are several reasons to work with one of these contractors.

Framing

One reason is that the contractor is going to know how to tie the new framing into the existing framing of your house. The framing is the basic skeleton of your house. Once the framing is in, the drywall and roof can be installed. The problem with adding a new room onto an existing house is that the framing has to be tied together, but you can't break down the wall immediately, because that is going to leave an opening into your house. It can be tricky to do and to do it right. Not doing it right can end up leaving you a weak spot, and can cause the addition to pull away from the house.

Subcontractors

Subcontractors are the people who do the things like electricity and plumbing. A contractor who works on remodeling and additions will have connections to subcontractors who can do the work on your addition. Depending on the size of the job and the size of the company, they may actually have employees on staff who are licensed to do the plumbing and electrical work, if they can't do it themselves. You want to make sure that whoever does the subcontracting work is licensed so that you can be sure that the job is done right.

Timing

Because your house is being worked on, you want to have the job done as quickly as possible. Any kind of construction site is going to be messy and busy. You don't necessarily want to have to live with all that mess and inconvenience for too long, so working with a contractor that does this kind of work regularly is going to be good. They are going to be sensitive to your concerns and your needs as you live in your house while it's getting worked on.

Adding on to your house can give your growing family room to stretch out. If you are going to get an addition to your house, make sure that you are working with a contractor who specializes in this. Contact a company like SL Remodeling to get started.
